‘Pier Park North’ is planned for the northeast corner of Back Beach Road and Pier Park Drive. The builder is Glimcher Development Corporation, a direct competitor of Simon Company, which owns Pier Park across the street. Glimcher is partnering with the St. Joe Company for 400-thousand square feet of retail space to include major chain stores and restaurants.

“What they’ve typically signed in the past in their other developments around the country, it’s always national big name, anchor type stores and typical national brands that go along with those, so I expect to see names we are all familiar with” said Panama City Beach Planning Director Mel Leonard.

Several would be new to Bay County, including Dick’s Sporting Goods, Fresh Market, Men’s Warehouse and Cheddars restaurant. Construction is scheduled to begin in January, with completion sometime in 2013.

This was our fourth year to spend Thanksgiving in Panama City Beach. We had some good friends here with us and we had great weather compared to the weather we could have had back home in Kentucky.

Our annual Thanksgiving event at the beach has even been nicknamed Skanksgiving as it is a “very” casual affair

We had our turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberries, and some desert prepared by Publix on Back Beach Road. Wine World provided some other much needed refreshments, and a friend of ours prepared a sweet potato casserole and a green bean casserole. After we stuffed ourselves on turkey and all the trimmings, we made our way to the beach to soak up some sun, as if it were going to aid in digestion, and we watched yet another beautiful sunset over the Gulf of Mexico. It was a great Thanksgiving.

There were a lot of people at the beach this year, we noticed about a 15% increase in occupancy at the beach. We had 50% occupancy for the Thanksgiving holiday here and it seems more and more that families are coming to the beach to spend time with family and friends to give thanks.

The holiday trend seems to be on the rise in Panama City Beach as we are seeing an increase in demand for accommodations for Christmas and New Years gatherings as well. We are going to have about a 75% occupancy rate for the week between Christmas and New Years Eve.

The beaches of Panama City Beach are a great place to visit to create some new holiday memories you and your family and friends will cherish forever.
